ABOUT
The Coalition for Police Accountability (CPA) was founded following the innovative and groundbreaking establishment in 2016 of the most independent police oversight agency in the country through passage of Measures LL and S1-in a city with a police department considered one of the most brutal in the country.

Its mission is to advocate for oversight, transparency, and the consistent constitutional operations of the Oakland Police Department.

In order to foster the accountability of the department, CPA will:

-
Monitor the implementation of Measures LL, S1 and the ongoing activities of the Oakland Police Commission (OPC)
-
Educate community members on current policing policies and practices
-
Support the efforts of other communities throughout the country to establish independent oversight in order to foster constitutional policing in their jurisdictions
-
At times support legislation or candidates to promote better police practices, oversight and improvements in the criminal justice system overall
In addition, the Coalition will offer to support efforts by other communities to establish oversight of their respective police departments by community members.
The Coalition may also engage with like-minded groups to pursue or support local, county, and state initiatives or candidates whose objectives are to ensure the protection of civil liberties, promote effective public safety strategies, and advocate for a fair, transparent, and accountable criminal justice system.
